Have you ever dazed off while sitting at your desk about what you really want to be doing with your career? Do you feel that you are stuck in your job with no way out? Do classified ads and various employment websites offer very little in the fields you are interested in? Well, have you ever thought about how social media sites like facebook and LinkedIN could actually help you advance your career?
Most people today use facebook as a way to communicate with family and friends, but it is much more powerful than that. Your friends and family have friends and family. They have jobs. They know people. By sharing with them your qualifications and networking with them, you are opening yourself up to a wide net of people who could just end up being your next boss or co-worker. Most companies place a high value on employee referrals. It can be much easier to get in the door if somebody can help open it for you from the inside.
As for LinkedIN, it is full of past, present and possibly future co-workers and business associates. By making sure you have a compelling, up to date profile you are setting yourself up to be seen by many who could be looking for someone like yourself. And again, by letting others know you are searching, they may see an opening or know somebody they can put you in touch with.
Social media is the newest form of networking out there and once you become comfortable using it, you could be on your way to a new job, a new career and new happiness.
